How Distinctive Finance helped Boris and Kevin into their first home

When Boris Karacic and his partner Kevin were looking to buy their first home on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, they decided to connect with Distinctive Finance’s Leighton Packer after a recommendation from a family friend.

They’d been renting in Wahroonga for years so they knew where they wanted to be, but had spent over 12 months looking for their ideal first home.

Once they found it they wanted to move quickly – but the first broker they approached was less than helpful.

“We did speak with another broker at the very start, but the lack of customer service there was incredible,” laughs Boris. “We then tried to speak to the bank directly, but quickly decided to ask around for recommendations for another broker, and were put in touch with Leighton.”

Boris and Kevin’s application was made a little more complex by the fact that Kevin is a sole trader – he runs a hairdressing salon while Boris works in novated leasing – but Leighton and the Distinctive team helped them through the process seamlessly.

“Leighton’s great – he’s really easy to deal with and he’s really great at communicating,” says Boris.

“He made it so easy – everything just seemed to be done in the background by him, we didn’t need to follow up, we didn’t need to call and say ‘hey, what’s happening with this?,’ he did it all, and was so quick, too.”

Making the right move

The Sydney housing market is notoriously difficult to access, especially as a first home buyer.

“You never know what’s going to happen in the market, but we’ve been monitoring it for years and waiting for the right moment to buy, and we decided that was now,” says Boris.

“Leighton was great throughout the process – he even earned top marks from our conveyancer about the way in which he went about things, which was great to hear.

“He was very reassuring about our decision, and advised us well. We were thinking about only putting down a five per cent deposit and keeping money aside for renovations, but Leighton suggested we put 10 percent down, which ended up saving us about $25,000 in lender’s mortgage insurance, which is certainly beneficial!”

Distinctive Finance saved to favourites!

Nicely settled into their new home, Boris and Kevin are now looking to the future, and whatever moves they make from a financial perspective, they’ll be giving Leighton a call.

“We’ll be 100 percent working with Leighton and Distinctive Finance again,” says Boris.

“In the near future, I’m thinking of buying a commercial property through self-managed superfunds, so we’ll be working with Leighton to do that.

“Having that knowledge that we’ve got someone like Leighton who we can trust and rely on to guide us through the process and make sure everything is being done as it should be is invaluable – we wouldn’t think of going anywhere else.”
